Last summer I was in England and saw big displays for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets everywhere. I'm a tremendous fantasy buff, but ignored it because the cover (Harry and pals in the flying car) and title made me think it must be some sort of Hardy Boys series.
When I returned to the US in late August I read a lukewarm review which mention the incredible popularity of the first title in England and immediately recalled those book displays I had seen. I bought the first one here, read it and enjoyed it -- and kicked myself for not buying the second while in England. (Fortunately, a student's mother visited London last fall and got me a copy.)
Every since I have been fruitlessly trying to find that lukewarm review. I was so sure it was in the New York Times, but I seem to have been wrong since I cannot find it in their on-line archives (I know they had a big review relatively recently -- this was a small capsule review.) The reviewer was dubious that the British school elements would appeal to Americans. I would appreciate any advice on how to find that review since it was the only somewhat negative one I read and I now wonder if I simply imagined it!
