Crossover books

Marian and Maia-- thanks so much for bringing the discussion back around to an exploration of crossover books.

I think you're right, Maia, when you say that you feel the distinction is largely artificial, at least in the case of the three books we have under discussion this month. All three of them demonstrate that a book doesn't need to be "either/or" in the adult/child category.

Marian has reminded us all that fantasy readers of all ages have always blurred the lines between adult and children's titles. I think to some extenet that's what's happened with Harry Potter, except on a grand scale, so much so that adults who don't typically read fantasy are reading Harry Potter.

I look forward to hearing from Michael Thorn of ACHUKA who's going to fill us in on Harry Potter's crossover appeal in Great Britain. If you have access to the World Wide Web, you may, in the meantime, want to visit Michael's great on-line children's literature magazine, ACHUKA, at: http://www.achuka.co.uk/index2.html

Michael has just posted the news about "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" winning the Children's Book Award, making it two years in a row that J.K. Rowling has won for a Harry Potter book.
