I would like to apologize for being a little late with my thoughts of the Mildrd Taylor series. I recently finished reading the books since they were recommended by this website. I enjoyed the stories very much and found the courage of the characters in the face of such adversity inspiring. As a middle school teacher and a college student, I feel these are books that would be well recieved by my students. There is definitely an issue of race, being African-american, poor and living in Mississippi in the early part of this century, but the true story is the one of strenth and family. I particularly like series of books, because many students who enjoy a particular book are always looking for books by the same author or about the same subjects. These series books encourage students to read more on a subject that they have enjoyed by an author they liked.
