Of course, Kay Thompson maintained until the day she died that ELOISE was NOT a children's book and thwarted all attempts to reprint the later titles. It is only since her passing that Simon & Schuster has been able to bring the three later titles back into print. ELOISE is a great example of a crossover book, as it is one that adults buy more for themselves, I think, than for their children.
