The Watsons Go to Birmingham has crossed over into my family in a big way. I gave it to my sister-in-law, a fourth grade teacher. We are the only children's book people in the family. She read it out loud to her children while my parents were visiting her. They read it and have since given it to many other adults. I think we have teachers to thank to a great extent for The Giver crossing over. I have often heard of teachers assigning it to classes and suggesting that parents and children read it together.
