i would like to say hello to everyone and am glad to be a part of your website. I found out about your site through my language arts teacher at Florida International University. i realize that the series books discussion was last month, however, i'd like to share my experience with you. the books i chose were the alfie series books by Shirley Hughes. in particular, i read
"alfie gets in first" and "alfie gives a hand."
initially, i figured it would be rather boring. i mean, what can an adult possibly enjoy from children's books. i was truly mistaken. i truly enjoyed following the same charcater throughout two different books. these stories both entertain and reassure young children.the author, shirley hughes, accomplishes this by pulling characters and situations right out of real life. somehow, alfie always found a way to overcome the obstacles presented.
i recommend this series for anyone who has or works with young children. the illustrations added a sense of realism to the stories that served to grasp the readers attention. i will continue to read the alfie series and will keep a close look out for other great series books.
