Yes, I appreciate your "Mum" and "Mom" comments. Actually, Jo and I discussed that particular translation again for CHAMBER OF SECRETS and decided to "stet" (i.e. leave as/is) the word -- especially in direct speach
-- in the second book and all future HARRY POTTER stories. We decided that, really, in almost all cases the word "Mum" would be understandable as "Mom"
(and not confused with a flower!) :)
