I am a student at FIU, I'M currently enrolled in a Language Arts course.I't is the last of my method courses and my major is Special Education.

I really enjoyed reading both Song of the Trees and Roll of Thunder,Hear my Cry. These books are about a black family that lives in the era of the Depression. In that time there was a lot of prejudice and discrimination against colored people, and I really liked the way the author wrote these books.I would recommend it to all of my student's in the future. The first book is about a family deeply attached to their land and the forest that surrounds it,they try to save it from a man who wants to cut down the forest. The second book is about the continuation of that same family, the Logan family. This also takes place in hard times especially for the Logan family who are going throught bad times when black and whites are separated. I also like the way Mildred Taylor writes, she uses so many details you feel as though you were there. I think children need to read that kind of literature so we don't forget how far we've come a the human race.

Thank you.
