Harry Potter: Enjoyed by fantasy readers?

Harry Potter appeals to me as a fantasy reader because it lets the reader in on a secret: an entire world that lives and learns and shops alongside "our" world, without Muggles having any idea of its existence.

I love symbolism and history as much as the next reader, but stretching the imagination is just as important to me. After having read J. R. R. Tolkein's books over and over when I was a child (and as an adult), the Hobbit's world of Middle Earth became "real" to me. That is how Harry Potter strikes me--J.K. Rowling has created a "real" place. For example, I keep wondering if that tiny door in Clarendon Hills tucked between Quinn's Coffee Shop and Marge's 2nd hand store might lead to a sort of Dygoon Alley of Illinois...

Harry Potter stretches the readers imagination and, besides, it's fun!
