After reading "Song of the Trees" and "Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry", the more I appreciate literature containing examples of the struggles in which not only African Americans had to live through during those terrible times but also others. Taylor clearly illustrates by her writing the way in which Cassie, in the midst of the life she lived, fought to overcome her circumstances. When Cassie was humiliated, after the burnings, during the night riders, all different eras of Cassie's life in which she was determined to rise above. Her determination was something that all children reading these books must have, not only children, but adults as well.
These books were great.
