Diana Wynne Jones? Yes! Always surprising, always witty. I did a 60+ paper on her some years back, and probably could have written again as much. Her books are so richly textured, both in terms of complicated plots, spot-on descriptions, and human motivations. CHARMED LIFE, FIRE AND HEMLOCK, and ARCHER'S GOON are among my favorites. Holly
