ALFIE GETS IN FIRST (I hope that is the exact title) is a gem. The characterizations of Alfie and his mother, the neighbors, the nature of the specific incident all ring true and stand up to repeated readings. This book is a favorite of mine to read in preschool storytimes both because I do not get tired of it and because the children are so engaged by Alfie and his predicament. The placement of Alfie standing in front of the locked door which is lined up parallel to the gutter of the book is perfect.

Titch also holds up well in repeated storytimes. The pictures are simple and clear and carry well to a large group, the words are brief and the stories are engaging.

Alfie and Titch together in one storytime - a winning combination!
