New Announcements:
1) "Celebrate the Elizabeth Burr Room" on Sunday afternoon, June 13, 1:30
(reception) and 2:00-3:00 (program) at the CCBC on the occasion of the formal naming of the CCBC Conference Room after the late Elizabeth Burr. Betty Burr was one of the founders of the CCBC, its first librarian, one of the founders of the Friends of the CCBC, and its first president. All Friends members will receive an invitation, but anyone interested is welcome to come to this special event.

(www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/) for on?mpus and off?mpus opporunities this spring and summer to meet others interested in Children's and Young Adult Literature and take advantage of a wide range of opportunties. A new edition will be posted during May.
3) Click to "What's New?" and then to "Book of the Week" on the CCBC webpage
(www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/) each week for CCBC staff book reviews or to read those from earlier weeks. The book reviewed most recently is "Monster" written by Walter Dean Myers and illustrated by Christopher Myers (Scholastic, 1999). Books reviewed during preceding weeks were "What Have You Lost?" poems selected by Naomi Shihab Nye with photographs by Michael Nye (Greenwillow, 1999) and "The Birchbark House written by Louise Erdrich (Hyperion, 1999).
4) You are invited to come to the CCBC and participate in the next book discussion to be held on Friday afternoon, May 21, 3:30-5:30pm. These discussions are open to anyone interested. Books can be read at the CCBC or obtained otherwise. Beginning May 6, you will find a copy of the discussion list on the CCBC webpage
(www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/).

A) You are invited to come to the University of Wisconsin - Madison campus during June 7 for a week of exploration, "In Search of Southeast Asia: Teaching into the 21st Century." This is the theme of a workshop for K teachers and school library media specialists sponsored by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies. Participants will learn about Southeast Asis from a multidisciplinary and curriculum-reform perspective. There will be ample time to develop plans for local curriculum. Participants will exmaine new ways of incorporating history and culture and of making links between the home country and new U.S. citizens from Southeast Asian nations. Campus lodging and four dinners are included in the very low tuition fee. Inquire about graduate credit or DPI clock hours. For more information, contact Ms. Peggy Choy, Center for Southeast Asian Studies (608&355) or

B) Save the dates, October 7-9, to come to Madison for the IBBY Regional Children's
& young Adult Literature Conference sponsored by the U.S. Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) and hosted by the CCBC. Watch the CCBC webpage
(www.education.wisc.education/ccbc/) for details. Registration brochures will be in the mail during mail. All interested persons are welcome to register and attend. Patron members of USBBY are the American Library Association, the Children's Book Council, the International Reading Council, and the National Council of Teachers of English.
