Debbie Reese -

Thank you for the enlightening discussion of the atrocities practiced
on the various tribes of Native Americans - and especially on their children - a hundred years ago in the Carlisle Indian School. I don't know any more about the Dear America
series except that they are quite popular, but to learn that they are as faulty as they are (the Jewish one was also picked apart recently, I remember) is, while not surprising, a little horrifying. Yes, artistic license, blah, blah, blah, but to see something as far off base as Rinaldi was in this tale is almost criminal, and seems part
of the collective guilt and historical whitewashing still going on today. I urge everybody who can to take a look at the site below for the full discussion - it seems an awful belittling of a horrifying chapter of history that I hadn't heard of before, tantamount to writing something perky, uplifting - and written by the Nazis' propaganda standpoint, so the destruction of a race's mental spirit is the "happy ending" - about children watching other children die in World War II concentration camps. Sorry, this is worse: because it's about Native Americans, a subject few people know enough about, it will slip under people's radar and be taken as truth in a way no similar travesty about the Nazis would be.
Thanks again to all nine women who contributed to this eye-opener. Long, but well worth it.

#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#* Myself and eight other women worked diligently over several weeks, pooling our knowledge about Carlisle Indian School. We have written a lengthy, detailed review of the book that can be read at the Oyate website
 .
