I have used Taylor's books in several classroom situations, mostly on campus for future teachers, and feel that they are some of the most powerful works for children on the scene today. 5th graders in our local school district read this book for Battle of the Books. Several middle school teachers use it in their classes. I have been unsuccessfully trying to get high school teachers to teach it. (One 10th grade teacher was interested until someone told her it was a Battle of the Books selection and then wouldn't consider it despite my arguments). I have faithfully followed all the sequels and prequels. Please Mildred Taylor - write another one. (Anyone know if she is planning on another saga of the Logans?)
