NO KISS... is a book I worked on with Ursula Nordstrom at Harper & Row. I was the "back-up" editor who checked galleys, wrote flap copy, checked the art, etc. I remember Ursula worrying about the title. She feared that mothers wouldn't buy the book, but the title stayed. There is an absolutely gruesome drawing of a rat/mouse? placed in the top of a meat grinder. I remember that we always had to go over Tomi's drawings carefully because he could "playfully" toss in a curse word or two or a slightly off-color detail. It was fun working with him. I have a wonderful autographed copy of NO KISS...Tomi signed his name with about eight gorgeous curlicues and a drawing of a cat. This book went out of print for awhile, but I'm not sure who's reissued it. I also worked on I AM PAPA SNAP... which has also gone in and out of print. I also remember that Tomi had his studio in Times Square, which I thought was very arty. Fran Manushkin
