CCBCers: Does anyone remember the three autobiographies written and illustrated by children's book artists? The only one I can recall--and recall it vividly, is Margot Zemach's. I can't remember unimportant details like publisher (maybe Addison-Wesley???) or year but I do know that the students with whom I worked--older and younger--were fascinated to learn about the lives of artists whose books they knew and to see how they portrayed themselves. I do recall that Harper's had planned to reissue them with sharper plates but nothing came of that. I do wish that the three could be reissued and the series be continued. (Anyone listening at HarperCollins?) On the same thought track, much of M.B. Goffstein (and where has she gone?) is autobiographical.
Also, since I am a Nina Bawden fan, I recall with pleasure her autobio.,
"In My Own Time" (Clarion), I was checking something in it about WWII just this week.
In a way, almost every book is autobiography since the author/illustrator carries to it his/her own experience.
Just a thunk (a heavy thought).
