One of the more fascinating autobios. I read this year (and kept rereading) is: "Tomi: A Childhood Under the Nazis," by Tomi Ungerer (Tomi Co., Roberts Rinhart, 1998). It's distributed in the U.S. by Publishers Group West.

Ungerer was from Alsace, always Germany's desired region. He was 8 in 1940 when the Nazis moved into that part of France. Tons and tons of illustratons (photos, sketches) and a feeling for the times comes through clearly in his approachable text.

Has anyone else perused this?
