I agree with Katy Horning's recent message about Lowry's memories. I am a true fan of Lowry's novels. I read them as an adolescent and reread them as an adult. I think "simply delightful" are the words that come to my mind when I read LOOKING BACK. The way she links her personal experiences to episodes in her books gives her books that much more depth and authenticity. I appreciate Lowry's honesty and openness. Her choice of photographs and passages are excellent. Not only do I want to reread Lowry's novels with these personal accounts in mind as Katy does, but I would like to read a complete biography or autobiography of Lowry's life. I want to know more about her life, childhood and experiences because I know it will bring even greater depth to the characters I love so much. To me LOOKING BACK reinforces the old adage that art (literature in this case) reflects the reality of the creator.
