As a Children's Librarian who often has upwards of 60 kids age 2 to 5 in storytime I appreciate books with spare text like "Snow," "No, David!" and
"Pete's A Pizza." While many picture books with expanded text are elegantly done, brevity is often a necessary when dealing with a large crowd of small children. The aforementioned titles worked splendidly in this setting.
I had the pleasure of reviewing "Pete's A Pizza" and felt that Steig may have portrayed Pete's parents as older to reach the growing segment of the population who are having children later in life. I currently have a 52 year-old-mother who brings her three-year-old into storytime.
