Lost message from Melody Allen

An interesting question. I don't know anything official, but I do know that Barbara Esbensen was once told that her collection of poetry--I forget which one--was disqualified from consideration for the Newbery because someone on the committee looked up the rules and found any previous publication was not allowed. Some of her poems had appeared in CRICKET before the book came out. Two other books were, apparently, disqualified with Barbara's that year. At least that's what she was told.
