THANKS TO MY MOTHER

Ginny asked me if we had plans to publish THANKS TO MY MOTHER in paperback, and I wanted to let you know that we certainly do. It will be published by Puffin in the Spring of '00.

Ginny also asked me whether we had promoted the book to adults, and we did cross?talog it in the Dutton adult catalog. I don't know how widely Germany's Alibaba Verlag promoted DANK MEINER MUTTER to adults, but the sampling of reviews that the publisher sent us indicated that it was reaching an audience of both adults and children there. For instance, a source called _Der Spiegel_ said it "deserved to be read by as many people as went to see Schindler's List."

An interesting side note to Schoschana's story is that she would have been a near contemporary of Esther Hautzig (THE ENDLESS STEPPE)'s in Vilnius, though I don't believe they knew each other (I sent each author a copy of the other's book). I realized this as I read about the deportation to Siberia that Susie's stepfather pulled strings to avoid, described on p. 10 of THANKS.
