Just a final word on Pete's A Pizza. As many have said, what a great read-aloud! Just a few minutes ago I read it aloud to a group of kindergarten kids. The first response upon my finishing was, "Read it again!" In the first reading, kids giggled more and more as the story progressed. In the second reading, the kids already knew the pacing of the story and their giggles anticipated the coming events. They loved it when the pizza gets up and runs away!
With no real intention, except that they are both new books that I really like, I read Pete's A Pizza right after Karen Hesse's Come On, Rain. Come On rain is a beautifully done celebration of rain, and Pete's A Pizza is a humorous story of what to do until the sun comes out. Both great read-alouds for the rainy day we have here at the moment.
