Dear Friends,
The National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature, a non-profit organization that collects, exhibits and tours the original works of children's book artists, will launch its David Wiesner: Tuesday exhibit on on a national tour June 29, 1999. The NCCIL (we say "nickel") is hosting a dinner on that fateful night in Abilene, Texas, and will be honored if any ccbc-net subscribers can attend. Information about tickets can be obtained by e-mailing me or the NCCIL.
David Wiesner will attend the dinner and be in Abilene for several days to participate in events in his honor. We are particularly pleased that the NCCIL exhibit will include works from his forthcoming book (to be published in the fall of 1999), Sector 7. This wordless book is the story of a little boy who goes on a field trip to the Empire State Building and makes friends with a little cloud. The cloud/friend takes the boy to the Cloud Dispatch Center, where clouds are dispersed to their assigned areas over the New York area. The clouds get ideas for more interesting shapes from the little boy's drawings, and...well, I don't want to spoil it for you. Take it from a confirmed Wiesner fan, Sector 7 is magnificent.
If anyone wants to know more about our project, the exhibit, tickets, or our future shows (Henkes, Wimmer, the Pinkneys), please e-mail me.
Thank you. I hope it is legal to send this announcement over the net.
Becky McDonald beckymcd at camalott.com NCCIL: website: This site will be updated within the next month to include more Wiesner information.
