Question about Wilder and Pura Belpre Awards

Someone inquired about the outcomes for two other ALA awards: the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award and the Pura Belpre Awards.

The ALA/ALSC Laura Ingalls Wilder Award is presented every three years to a writer for the body of his/her works written for children. Russell Freedman won the 1998 Wilder Award, and Virginia Hamilton was the 1995 Wilder Award winner. No Wilder Award for two more years.

The relatively new Pura Belpre Awards are co-sponsored by two ALA entities: REFORMA
(National Association to Promote Library Services to the Spanish Speaking) and ALSC
(Association for Library Services to Children). The Belpre Awards for outstanding writing and illustration by Latina/Latino writers and artists are presented in alternate years. The second round of Pura Belpre Awards were presented in 1998, and so the next Pura Belpre Awards will be presented in 2000. Stay tuned to CCBC-Net next January for that announcement!
