I was a member of the 1999 Caldecott committee, and love reading everyone's comments. Please keep them coming! In response to comments about the repeated snowflake design, I can only speak for myself (and no one else) when I say that I feel it is part of the book design rather than part of the illustration, and that it is a way of presenting information in an attractive way that doesn't draw attention to itself. It seems to me to be a kind of repetitive motif saying "here I am again; don't I look familiar? I'm the sidebar. Now look at the illustrations." What do you think?
