I found _No, David!_ a delightful combination of understatement and rampant mischief. There are visual clues that David is an only child and therefore used to having to entertain himself. He has an active imagination that often gets him into trouble. David's oversized head shows it all--his expressive face (as well as the faces of his bathtub toys and teddy bear) tells much of the story.
Everyone knows someone like David, the child who has a knack for unintentionally wreaking havoc the minute his parents' back is turned. Shannon captures so much of the complexities of a "naughty" child's world in a seemingly simple presentation. There is much that a young child can relate to as he or she absorbs the visual details of the book.
I imagine _No, David!_ will spark lively conversations in our storytimes.
