CCBC'ers: The one item I really want[ed] in "Snowflake Bentley" was/is an actual photo or two of the snowflakes. I've seen such photos in various books and magazine articles (I believe "Smithsonian" had an article on him--but it may have been "Scientific American" or some other periodical) and think that such an inclusion would have stengthened the book considerably and showed readers what the "product" of his work was/is.
I may not be making sense, for I'm only now returned from Philadelphia (and the black hole of hell hotel there) but when I read the book I was charmed by Martin's excellent, strong text and wood cuts (or were they wood engravings? no--they were cuts) and wanted to add my footnote to the previous interesting discussion about this book. ( I was on a plane when it started.) Yes, a Bentley photo or two--perhaps on the binder's paste down or on a free end leaf would have added a great deal of "actuality" to the illustrations.
