I agree with Dr. Ruth! Americans give lip service to "putting our children first" but just look where our dollars go. "Follow the money." Think of any profession which specializes in children and how it matches up financially with those that specialize in adults. I don't imply that money is the only standard, but it certainly says a lot about priorities. Teachers and child care providers are always underpaid. Librarians who serve children are usually paid less than other librarians. Even career parents who are "devoted" to their children will pay someone minimum wage (or less) to care for their "most treasured ones". Those same parents often spend more on their entertainment/restaurants, etc. than they do on child care. This wanders from -Holes-, but not really. This is one of my "soap box" issues and Dr. Ruth, as always, started me to thinking! Thanks for your many contributions to children's literature, Dr. Gordon!
