I had trouble with the Peck book, too, and furthermore I can never remember the exact words in the title that go with "Chicago." I almost gave up on it, but each chapter was just about the right length for bedtime reading when I didn't have enough energy to go looking for something else. I felt like I was consorting with Louisey and the bunch in Dogpatch, and although I got used to it by the end, I'm afraid I still have difficulty seeing what makes this book distinguished.
Or, am I missing something here? Perhaps it is actually a brilliant parody of a certain humorous style and tradition in writing?
