1999 Caldecott Award Winner: Snowflake Bentley -Reply

Our Horn Book reviewer wondered about this as well. The cover on the f&g used the repeating-snowflake design even more prominently, so we called the publisher with the query. We were told that the editor's young son had also called this to his mother's attention, and as a result the cover was changed. It was evidently too late to do anything about the interior page design.

Like Walter, I wondered about the repeated use of the snowflake design in the book as well. It seemed to run counter to the theme of individuality
(both of Bentley himself and of the snowflakes to which he devoted his life). Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the illustrator may have made this choice?
