Please continue the great discussion of "Snowflake Bentley as we head into the second week of our Caldecott Discussion. I know it can sometimes be difficult to lay hands on a copy of the award books soon after the awards are announced, because they're in such high demand in bookstores and libraries.

We'd also like to begin our discussion of the Caldecott Honor books as well. They are:

1) "Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra" illustrated by Brian Pinkney, written by Andrea Davis Pinkney (Hyperion, 1998; ISBN 0x68!50-7; $16.49)

2) "No, David" by David Shannon (Blue Sky Press/Scholastic, 1998; ISBN 0Y0?002-8;
$14.95)

3) "Snow" by Uri Shulevitz (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1998; ISBN 0747092-3; $16.00)

4) "Tibet: Through the Red Box" by Peter Sis (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1998; ISBN 0747552-6; $25.00)

One of the things that stands out to me about the 1999 Caldecott books as a whole is how different they are from each other and how each of them represents a different art style and a different type of picture book.

Please share your comments about any or all of these books over the next several days.
