The list below includes opportunties for which either the CCBC or others have responsibility:
1) An exhibit for families and all interested persons "Words and Images: The Narrative Works of the Pinkneys" runs through March 17 at the brand new Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center, 426 N. Jackson St., Janesville, Wisconsin. The exhibit features original art for children's books by Jerry Pinkney, Brian Pinkney, and Myles Pinkney as well as examples of manuscripts written by Gloria Jean Pinkney and Andrea Davis Pinkney. The museum is operated by the Rock County Historical Society and is open daily between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Admission: Preschool - Free; Grades K through 12 - $2.50; Adults - $3.50; Seniors - $3.00; Groups of 12 or more - call for rates a reservation. 2) Recently Announced Award-winning and Outstanding Books for Preschoolers will be discussed by Ginny Moore Kruse, Kathleen Horning and Megan Schliesman on Thursday afternoon, February 11, 4:30 - 6:20 p.m. This telecommunications program is offered by the UW-Madison School of Library & Information Studies. 3) Recently Announced Award-winning and Outstanding Books for Children and Young Adults will be offered on two Thursday afternoons: February 25 and March 4, 4:30 - 5:50 p.m. Lynn Evarts, a member of the ALA/YALSA Quick Picks for Young Adults Committe, will be a special guest on one of these afternoons. See #2 above for further information.
4) Outstanding new Latino Literature for children and young adults will be discussed during the annual CCBC Americas Award discussion on Tuesday, March 16, 5:10 - 9:10 p.m. in the CCBC.
The discussion list will be posed on the CCBC website
(www.soemadison.wisc.edu/ccbc/). This annual discussion is co-sponsored with the Madison Metropolitan School District. All interested adults are invited to participate by securing the reading list and reading most if not all of the books on it in advance. The discussion books are on reserve in the CCBC and may be borrowed on an overnight basis.
Pre-registration is necessary. No fee for anyone registering through the CCBC.
5) Award-winning artist & filmmaker Peter Sis will present a free, public lecture on Monday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m., in an auditorium of the Elvehjem Museum of Art, 800 University Ave., University of Wisconsin
- Madison.
Mr. Sis created the 1999 Caldecott Honor Book Tibet: Through the Red Box, which has been acclaimed for children and adults alike. His wide-ranging career as an artist and filmmaker includes artwork appearing regularly in the New York Times. His many books for children include Starry Messenger, Three Golden Keys, and Fire Truck.
The CCBC is a co-sponsor of this lecture which is presented by the International Institute at UW-Madison. Other UW-Madison co-sponsors include the Creative Writing Program of the English Dept.; the Art Dept.; the Center for South Asia; the Center for Russia, East Europe and Central Asia; the Global Cultures Program; and the Friends of the CCBC. 6) Artist Carmen Lomas Garza will present a free, public lecture on Thursday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m., in an auditorium of the Elvehjem Museum of Art, 800 University Ave., University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Ms. Lomas Garza will be on campus as part of an artist in residence program at Tandem Press, Art Dept., School of Education, UW-Madison. Her distinguished career includes the creation of books for children, including two collections of paintings about her Mexican American childhood in Texas: Family Pictures = Cuadros de familia and In My Family = En mi familia.

7) Save these dates, October 7-9, 1999, to come to Madison, Wisconsin! At that time, the CCBC will co-host the IBBY Regional Children's & Young Adult Literature Conference sponsored by the U.S. Board on Books for Young People (USBBY).
The second annual Charlotte Zolotow Lecture will be given on Oct. 7 by Katherine Paterson in Madison immediately preceding the conference. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Speakers who will develope the conference theme, "Points of View," include Nina Bawden, Virginia Buckley & Katherine Paterson, Anthony Browne, Joanna Cole & Bruce Degen, Floyd Cooper, Lois Ehlert, Sarah Ellis, Jeffrey Garrett, Kevin Henkes, Nina Ignatowicz, Keiko Kasza, Hector Viveros Lee, Julius Lester, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Junko Yokota.

All are welcome to register and attend.
