I have been saying for the past six months that if I were giving the Caldecott, I would give it to NO, DAVID! I also said that it didn't have a prayer of winning anything. Shows what I know. I am thrilled with this book's honor, and think it is one of the most kid-friendly books of the year. Hooray for the Caldecott committee.
The other three honor books make good sense, though I had to run to my notes to see if Farrar Straus had actually released TIBET as a children's book--they had, and then had also listed it in their adult catalog. I find Sis' work fascinating, as does my nine year old son, and thought this book the most mature of his books. I wonder how it goes over elsewhere?
I adored SNOW--thought it was the winner for sure (again, where this award is concerned, my prognostication powers are nil)--and think it a powerful book about patience, faith, and transformation.
I also am a great admirer of Brian Pinkney, and was glad to see his work honored.
