Following the CCBC rules of etiquette, I'll introduce myself as I move from 4-month lurker to participant: UW-Madison trained school librarian, now living in Ann Arbor, MI and keeping in touch with "home" through CCBCnet; a public school librarian in my new town and mom of a 15-year old daughter who gladly reads everything I bring home & discusses it; and now to "Holes".
I loved hearing what kids told Katie about the fantasy elements-this aspect really interested my daughter as well. Just wanted to add that as a person who has seen heavy duty sunburn requiring medical attention, I knew it was fantasy as soon as it was clear that Stanley's day out in the sun, without a hat!, had not prevented his return to the same situation the next day.
We liked it very much, nonetheless, but were very sad that "Bat 6" wasn't among the winners.
