SPORTS FICTION

One of the students in the children's literature class I taught this past semester was a baseball player who did his final on, you guessed it, baseball books. He was taking the course for a distribution requirement and had read very little fiction and had almost no remembrance of reading picture books as a child. But he sure did know his baseball nonfiction!

I think Brenda's observation must also apply to computers. My daughter used to play softball but had little interest in reading about it. Now she is one of those wired teens. She read a couple of the Cyberkids series but is basically not interested in getting off the computer to read much of anything, though I can sometimes hand feed her middle grade and YA fiction I have read first.
