As far as I know, there hasn't been mention yet of the great sports fiction by R. R. Knudson. Many of her books feature female characters, like the "Zan" books, or non-athletic boys like a character named Rinehart. She has also written some sports biographies, and edited a sports poetry anthology. I haven't read any of her books for several years, but I recall that they had plenty of sports action, and more complete characterizations than most sports novels. Of course, it was refreshing to read about girls in sports fiction! Does anyone have other suggestions of authors that feature female characters? Thanks, Penny Peck Pikly at aol.com
