The list below includes opportunties for which either the CCBC or others have responsibility:
1) An exhibit for families and all interested persons "Words and Images: The Narrative Works of the Pinkneys" will open on January 21 and run through March 17 at the brand new Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center, 426 N. Jackson St., Janesville, Wisconsin.
The exhibit features original art for children's books by Jerry Pinkney, Brian Pinkney, and Myles Pinkney as well as examples of manuscripts written by Gloria Jean Pinkney and Andrea Davis Pinkney.
The museum is operated by the Rock County Historical Society and is open daily between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Admission: Preschool - Free; Grades K through 12 - $2.50; Adults - $3.50; Seniors - $3.00; Groups of 12 or more - call for rates a reservation.
On Saturday morning, January 23, Ginny Moore Kruse provide a hands-on exhibit of books by all the five Pinkneys. At 10:00 a.m. her presentation illustrated with slides will feature "The Power and Appeal of Pinkney Illustration" especially planned for teachers, librarians and other interested adults.

2) Canadian artist/author Ian Wallace will speak on Friday, January 29, 8:00pm, at a public meeting sponsored by the United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) during the ALA Conference in Philadelphia.
The meeting will be held in the Independence Ballroom, Section B, Crowne Plaza Hotel. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of whether or not you register for the ALA conference.
Mr. Wallace has been cited as one of the Canadian book creators involved in recent years in developing vigorous, imagination national literature for children. He is the winner for the Amelia Frances Howard Gibbon Award for Chin Chiang and the Dragon's Dance (Atheneum, 1984).
His newest book, Boy of the Deep, will be published this month by DK Ink.
Ian Wallace's more than four dozen other books include: The Sandwich and Christmas Tree House (Kids Can, 1975); Sparrow's Song (Viking, 1986); Very Last First Time by Jan Andrews (Atheneum, 1986); Morgan the Magnificent (McElderry, 1988); Builder of the Moon by Tim Wynne-Jones
(McElderry, 1988) - published as Architect of the Moon in Canada; The Name of the Tree retold by Celia Lottridge (McElderry, 1990); The Year of Fire by Teddy Jam (McElderry, 1993); Hansel and Gretel (Groundwood, 1994); and Sarah and the People of Sand River by W.D. Valgardson
(Groundwood, 1994).
3) The annual American Library Association book awards will be announced at a press conference of the Association for Library Service to Children held during the ALA Midwinter Conference in Philadelphia on Monday morning, February 1: Caldecott, Newbery, Coretta Scott King, and Batchelder Awards.
Information about the ALA award winners will be sent to CCBC-Net participants that morning.
4) Recently Announced Award-winning and Outstanding Books for Preschoolers will be discussed by Ginny Moore Kruse, Kathleen Horning and Megan Schliesman on Thursday afternoon, February 11, 4:30 - 6:20 p.m.
This telecommunications program is offered by the UW-Madison School of Library & Information Studies. For registration fee and transmission details, contact Linda Mundt, SLIS Continuing Education Services

5) Recently Announced Award-winning and Outstanding Books for Children and Young Adults will be offered on two Thursday afternoons: February 25 and March 4, 4:30 - 5:50 p.m. See #2 above for further information.
6) Outstanding new Latino Literature for children and young adults will be discussed during the annual CCBC Americas Award discussion on Tuesday, March 16, 5:10 - 9:10 p.m. in the CCBC.
The discussion list will be posed on the CCBC website
(www.soemadison.wisc.edu/ccbc/).
This annual discussion is co-sponsored with the Madison Metropolitan School District. All interested adults are invited to participate by securing the reading list and reading most if not all of the books on it in advance. The discussion books are on reserve in the CCBC and may be borrowed on an overnight basis.
Preregistration is necessary. No fee for anyone registering through the CCBC.
7) Save these dates, October 7-9, 1999, to come to Madison, Wisconsin! At that time, the CCBC will co-host the IBBY Regional Children's & Young Adult Literature Conference sponsored by the U.S. Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) and present the second annual Charlotte Zolotow Lecture.
