Last thoughts?

I do not get many sports requests from girls, with the exception of gymnastics and black history month assignments such as, Wilma Rudolph, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Florence Griffiths-Joyner. I did get some circulation out of an old softball series called the Pink Parrots.

I don't think girls understand or appreciate women sports heroines of the past either. My own two athletic daughters are incredulous that the only organized sport available in my girlhood was softball, and only for 7th and 8th graders. Before we close, I'd like to mention an offbeat sports novel that I and my older daughter liked, Escape by Deluge by Edel Wignell. In this intriguing mix of sports and the supernatural, a swimmer is pursued by a mythical (or is it?) Australian water monst er, the Bunyip.
