The pickings are much slimmer for preschoolers and primary grade children. Here's a few titles I've found popular.
Harry Allard's Miss Nelson Had a Field Day (football) Anthony Browne's Willy the Wizard (soccer) Leslie Tyron's Albert's Ballgame (baseball) Eloise Greenfield's For the Love of the Game: Michael Jordan and Me Robert Burleigh's Hoops (basketball) and, as mentioned by a number of others, Home Run: the Story of Babe Ruth
I'll second the earlier recommendation for Stadler's Easy Readers, also Leonard Kessler's easy readers Here Comes the Strikeout, Super Bowl, etc. though written a number of years ago, still are enjoyed by young ones.
