_Harry Potter and the Sorcerors Stone_ J.K. Rowling Scholastic I am presently reading it aloud to (count 'em) 4 different groups of 8/9 year olds and haven't gotten sick of it yet. A fun, faboulous fantasy adventure along the lines of Dahl. Recommended it and have bought 4 copies already.
_ A Year with Butch and Spike_ Gail Gauthier, Putnam The Cootches are the most enjoyable_bad_ kids since the Herdmans (Best Christmas Pagent Ever)
_Shadow Spinner_ by Susan Fletcher , Atheneum Epic yet personal struggle of a young girl during the time of Shahrazad.

_The Skin I'm In_ Sharon Flake ,Jump at the Sun/ Hyperion Moving dramatic tale of inner-city girl and peer pressure.
_ Go and Come Back_ Joan Ablelove DK Ink, Richard Jackson Funny, sweet, surprising novel with a unique point-of-view
Picture Book, older
_Weave of Words_, Robert San Souci, ill. Raul Colon, Orchard Strong story, well developed characters and bold pictures. Easy to tell again, and again.
Picture Book younger
_I Lost My Bear_ Jules Feifer, Morrow Poignant, realistic, heart stopping drama.
Poetry Younger Antarctic Antics, Judy Siera, Ill by Aruego Fun, fact filled frolic
Poetry Middle and YA Earth Shattering Poems, edited by Liz Rosenberg, Holt heart-stopping. A well thought out survey with in?pth notes.
And of course the big gift for grown-ups is _Dear Genius_
