Favorites - CCBC Discussion: Coretta Scott King - Authors

A clear favorite emerged last evening following a thorough discussion of eleven of the books eligible for the 1999 Coretta Scott King Book Award for Authors.

CCBC Discussion Winner:

The Skin I'm In, a novel written by Sharon G. Flake (Jump at the Sun / Hyperion, 1998)

CCBC Discussion Honor Books:

1) Amistad: A Long Road to Freedom written by Walter Dean Myers (Dutton, 1998);

2) Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra written by Andrea Davis Pinkney and illustrated by Brian Pinkney (Hyperion, 1998); and

3) From Slave Ship to Freedom Road written by Julius Lester to accompany paintings by Rod Brown (Dial, 1998).

This was one of three discussions co-sponsored throughout 1998? by the Madison Metropolitan School District and the CCBC.
