One of my favorite new books and one I will be giving for a Christmas gift is Peggy Rathmann's TEN MINUTES TILL BEDTIME. I saw her do a
"reading" of it and both she and the book are wonderful. The book is cram full of funny details, lots to look for and laugh at. Has everyone found the very tiny ant on each page?

I will also be giving HOLES by Louis Sachar as a gift. I haven't even read it yet but have been convinced by all the postings about it here and various other places. Oh, the power of the listservs!

Note to Nina Lindsay: Regarding books about snow in temperate climates such as ours - have you seen MIDNIGHT SNOWMAN by Caroline Feller Bauer? It is about kids who live where it rains all winter, and then they experience a once-in-a-childhood snowstorm and go out late at night to make a snowman. Perfect for temperate SF Bay Area

Dorian - who loves a good snowstorm.
