My favorite picture books (so far) are: 1) Elizabeti's Doll by Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen 2) So Say the Little Monkeys by Nancy Van Laan 3) A Creepy Countdown by Charlotte Huck 4) Loud Emily by Alexis O'Neill 5) The Wild Boy by Mordicai Gerstein 6) my most favorite: Beautiful Warrior by Emily Arnold McCully.
I also appreciate the detail of Wendy Anderson Halperin's lovely illustrations in Sophie and Rose by Kathryn Lasky and am looking forward to pouring over Once Upon a Company written and illustrated by Halperin.
My favorite in?tween book is: A Brilliant Streak: The Making of Mark Twain by Kathryn Lasky.
My favorite works of juvenile fiction (in addition to Holes which everyone else seems to like, too) are: 1) My Louisiana Sky by Kimberly Willis 2) Count Karlstein by Philip Pullman (very funny and not intense like His Dark Materials which I'm finally (thankfully) getting the teen discussion group to read) 3) and my most favorite: Tangerine by Edward Bloor.
