I agree that we do lose some depth in the story when multiple voices are heard. I also agree with John that it is so difficult to "know" the characters, especially early in the book. I read BAT 6 over the week-end and it took 1/3 of the book for me to know their names and which team was which. I kept checking the rosters at the beginning of the book. However, it was captivating (and sometimes confusing) to be in Shazam's thoughts. The reader certainly is aware of her confusion and anger. The sense of guilt of other characters is also very clear. I do wonder how diligent my fifth-graders will be to slug through the first part of the book to get acquainted with each character, however. The issue of girls who are violent is seldom addressed in children't literature and I thank Ms Wolff for this excellent story. Sue McGown
