I know we're focusing on unusual and innovative forms, but I also think an author's ability to capture a single point of view in a straightforward narrative (as Renee Hoxie pointed out for "What Jamie Saw") can make all the difference in any genre. "All About Sam" by Lois Lowry is one example...it's not a simple thing to tell a story purely from a toddler's point of view that will be interesting and funny to eight and nine year olds. Or Peter Dickinson's "Chuck and Danielle," where the dog's point of view is hilarious, but also touching at times. "Scooter," by Vera Williams is another. None of these authors use any special point of view tricks (except maybe the artwork in "Scooter"), but by giving the characters so much
"voice," they really come alive.
