Nancy Silverrod's concern about the deluge of books written in a nonlinear fashion is important. I like Making Up Megaboy, Nothing But the Truth, The View from Saturday and others, but wouldn't want a steady diet of this kind of book. I, too, like being drawn into a long, coherent story developed more traditionally. However, I don't think we need to worry that the future of all of children's literature is in this nonlinear, multiple narrative style. It is one style, interesting because it is one style different from others. In adult literature, modernist and post-modernist fiction have not supplanted more traditional means of telling a story; they simply coexist and are fascinating for what they add to the mix and for what they add to discussions with students.
