I had the same reaction as Kathy. My reading of Holes was pretty standard - I read to find out how all the mystery elements were resolved. The interspersed stories were interesting, but they were simply more information to fill in the answer to the mystery. There was a pretty clear plot trajectory for me. The back-in-time sections simply filled out
"holes" in the plot, but is that what is meant non-linear?
