Whirligig

I have been of the list for awhile but I couldn't help chiming in.

To: CCBC: Re: Whirligig. I,too found that this slight volume, read in one sitting was a story that I could not stop thinking about.

A story of redemption and amends. A tale of how each action has unpredictable consequence, whether taking a drink and driving or building a piece of art. How art affects lives. The image of the grandmother and granddaughter sitting in the car looking out at the whirligig haunts me.

I was taken aback by the sequencing of the novel but it struck me as part of the theme of cause and effect.

I had no problem with the idea of the punishment, how could he ever atone for this grievous harm. What an elegant solution.

Yours Lisa
