Whirligig

I just got back from vacation so I missed the Whirligig discussion and have not had time to catch up, but did not want to miss it. All I have to add is that I recently booktalked this book to freshmen in high school. It would not have been a first choice, but it was fresh in my mind and I was asked to do this with little notice. I opened with it because I could get their attention by putting them in the same situation as the main character. The first chapter does draw you in because they're drinking and at a party. I asked them to imagine themselves at that party and then brought them to the car when he let go of the wheel. Then I just summed up the rest, which was interesting to me, but also sometimes hard to follow who Fleishman was talking about. It is checked out right now, but I will never know if anyone actually finishes it or likes it.
